	Atium Tunnels Despite the total lack of light and constant, confusing turns in the Pits, convicts- particularly skaa- are expected to navigate them well enough each week to find the precious atium geodes demanded by the administrators. Many are incapable of doing so, and collapse from dehydration, starvation, or exhaustion after becoming lost. New miners quickly become used to crawling over corpses in varying stages of decay; after all, it’s only one more horror in their harsh lives, and a small one when compared to the constant threat of death hanging over their heads. So narrow and low that at times they are almost impossible to get through, these tunnels are the dread- and the only hope- of every convict forced to live here. 	Administrator Barracks Next to the chilling Pits themselves and the stark quarters given to prisoners when they aren’t in the mines themselves, the barracks provided for the administrators seem downright posh. While not overly lavish, they’re well-built, with walls that insulate from extreme temperatures and keep out bad weather- not to mention furnished nicely, including comfortable beds. Few luxuries can be found here, but there’s nothing to complain about either, and the rooms of the highest-ranking are especially comfortable. Really, it’s no surprise; these are Venture employees, after all, and the rich and prestigious House Venture looks after its own. They can hardly let their workers live like convicts, now can they? Pits of Hathsin

Considered inescapable- and rightly so, for no one has ever been sent to work in the Pits and lived to tell the tale- this jail is reserved for the empire’s worst criminals. Once here, prisoners are forced to crawl through narrow tunnels and extract geodes from sharp crystal formations, slicing their arms in the process. These geodes contain atium, and any prisoner who doesn’t manage to offer up one bead of atium each week is immediately and savagely beaten to death. Because House Venture controls all atium trade, the Pits are considered to be under their authority, and all overseers here are on the Venture payroll.
