Koloss
The kloss are a race of beings created by the Lord Ruler while he held the power from the Well of Ascension. They were then used as a group of incredibly powerful, hard-to-kill warriors. With their strength and power the Lord Ruler was able to conquer all the lands to form what is now the Final Empire. They are now found to the far north and are only called upon by the Lord Ruler in times of incredible need.
Koloss are formed through Hemalurgy, the art of Ruin. Four pewter spikes, similar in every way to those used by inquisitors, are used to hold the blue skin of a Koloss in place. Humans–living, breathing humans–are needed in order to strap the skin onto them. Four such humans are stabbed in the heart with metal spikes, similar to those seen in Steel Inquisitors; the spikes are then immediately stabbed into strategic locations on a fifth human. This process, which is a closely guarded secret known only to the koloss themselves and the Lord Ruler, instantly transforms the fifth human into a koloss capable of extraordinary physical feats. (However, it also leaves them mentally lacking; while still able to perform basic reasoning and communicate with others, koloss are highly unintelligent.) This explains why younger or ‘immature’ koloss have sagging, loose skin while that of an older or ‘mature’ koloss can be so tight that it rips and bleeds. It is assumed that this is because the skin of the koloss does not grow, while the rest of the koloss continues to grow at a constant rate until it dies of either violence or organ failure due to its immense size.
It has been observed that koloss have only two reactions to anything: boredom or anger. A violent race, koloss constantly fight each other for meaningless reasons simply to dissipate their furry. Usually the older koloss will win a fight by killing the younger one; the dead one is then stripped of its skin and spikes and its weapons taken for the creation and arming of a new Koloss. This very nature is what makes the Lord Ruler only call on them when the need is particularly great because after stirring themselves up with a bloodlust dance they use before war, they will continue to fight until there emotions cool down to boredom again. They usually only calm down after destroying dozens of villages.
Koloss can be controlled through Allomancy–specifically, through the use of brass. Intense Soothing, done by either a powerful Mistborn using duralumin or a group of brass Mistings, will bring the mind of the targeted koloss under control of the Allomancer's mind (or minds). From then on, until someone else uses the same trick to steal the creature away, "trapped" koloss can be commanded at the Allomancer's will. However, this technique is even more carefully guarded than the one used to create koloss, and even if a group of Soothers figure it out and get together (unlikely, as sane humans stay away from koloss), the Lord Ruler is more than powerful enough to take the koloss back and kill the interlopers.
