For Kandra
Blessing: Blessing of Presence
Contract Status: On contract
Impersonation Skill:Due to her age and the fact that she rarely stays in the Homeland she is quickly able to digest and copy bodies, usually within an hour. Aen is also skilled enough to create her own body at will, though it is never particularly good. Copying the movements and personality of other’s is relatively easy as she will spend a week or so watching her target and becoming more familiar with their habits.
---------------
Appearance:
Even among kandras Aen has peculiar tastes when it comes to True Bodies. When visiting the Homeland, which is rare for Aen, her skin is far more opaque than the stereotypical kandra. While clear enough to see the bones, the skin is closer to a human’s with its pinky white color. The bones themselves are made from pumice; a pale blue-gray rock formed from frothy super heated lava. The rock is incredibly light and is similar to a sponge with various holes and indentions. Even when Aen choose this rock for its lightweight she knew the other kandra would think her odd for not picking something flashier, something far less practical, so Aen requested that all of the pumice’s small indentions and holes be filled with perfectly shaped fire opals, a rock that Aen had always considered beautiful because of the smooth surface and shimmery shades.
Aen enjoys contracts to an abnormal degree but the only thing she absolutely refuses to do is imitate a man. Her argument is that she is obviously female, so there is no point pretending to be a man. While at first some questioned her rebellion against the second generation, she has slowly been accepted as odd, but harmless so the seconds usually just ignore her.
Although Aen loves to be human anyway she particularly enjoys being someone unique. Some one with red hair or blue eyes or uneven ears or mute or blind or extremely short. She sees it as an opportunity to learn how those people cope with being so different. It is human nature to shun, reject, even kill those who are abnormal, so how did these specific people learn to cope with the people around them?At the moment:
Currently AenSitu is masquerading as a nineteen year old informant named Freya. As part of a rather well off skaa family, Freya has never been forced into anorexia, leaving her rather plump at 130 pounds and 5’ 3 but it all just helps her natural curves anyway. The girl is not average in appearance but not beautiful enough to be noticed by everyone who passes by either. Displaying soft curly brown hair and large chocolate puppy-dog eyes, she is pretty to look at with a soft face, plump lips and a dainty nose that contribute to her looks.
Gray skirts topped with colorful blouses are the only things to be found in Freya’s immense wardrobe aside from the occasional pair of trousers and black shirts. Although she finds pants insulting to the feminine physique she still forces herself to wear them when ever she works with noble men. When meeting with nobles she also smudges her face with ash and makes herself as unappealing as possible. It’s always better safe then sorry when it comes to nobles since you don’t want to end up as the next girl keeping them warm for a night.
Glass daggers also tend to find their way into Freya’s wardrobe whenever she meets a noble. One strapped to each leg and each arm, secured with clasps that quickly release. Although Freya has only had to use these twice before in her four years as an informant, and neither of those times against allomancers, she still carries them whenever meeting with a client.
Personality:
AenSitu is considered one of the more obedient of the 4th generation. Even if she doesn’t agree with something the 2nd generation says she will obey without question. After all what good would opposing the seconds do? She would be ignored, possibly disciplined, and above all she doesn’t want that. Plus, Aen has never been able to argue with anyone, she simply thinks that whatever someone says is their opinion and they should be allowed to keep it.
Unlike most kandra, Aen harbors a mixture of love and curiosity when it comes to humans. In fact she often refers to them as ‘the adorable squishes,’ lovingly of course. However, understandably so, she doesn’t go around shouting this to other kandra or humans. Humans are intriguing with all of their various emotions and reactions to different situations but Aen still knows to be wary of them. Even after 400 years of in depth analyzing she feels they will always do something unexpected, which is why she enjoys contracts so much. It gives her a chance to practice being unexpected and do what other kandra would find demeaning or pathetic simply because it is human.
Contracts and the 2nd generation have always instilled obedience into the other generations, so it’s surprising that Aen occasionally finds herself thinking independently. For example she believes some people don’t deserve the right to order others around, lots of the Nobles she has to work with certainly don’t. Although this idea is a rebellious one, it has been Aen’s belief for well over two hundred years ever since a particularly abusive contractor. Although Aen, just like any other kandra, does not dare break her contract and can not be pushed to violence for any reason, she does not hold back her opinions of her masters. Even though she obeys the orders, her opinions or complaints burst from her mouth to try and persuade her master to a different course. While this attitude has led to broken bones and sometimes even bodies, it has also helped Aen understand how the skaa feel when it comes to Father and the other nobles.
Since death is not really an option for kandra, Aen is fearless. She understands that though she might feel the pain of dying a hundred times over, she will never be able to reach it. So, even when she is in her True Body, she will attempt things that other’s rarely will; for example trying to imitate a prisoner in the Pits of Hathsin. While on Contracts she tries to suppress such urges due to the fact that getting another body would be a pain. Imitating someone who is known for being reckless is what makes contracts worth while for Aen. It gives her an excuse to be more herself then usual.
Of life, AenSitu enjoys very little besides her Contracts. Though she has picked up a few habits from past imitations such as her love of the violin and books. Other then these hobbies and pass times, she has very little attachment to physical things. Instead Aen prefers to leave herself open to the whims and wishes of the people she is imitating. If any shred of her kandra personality was allowed to shine through it would mean breaking her Contract, even if it was by accident. At the Moment:
Freya, although a capable informant with connections in every High noble house-hold, is rather ostentatious and likes to flaunt her slightly-better-then-average looks. As a known flirt with no specific tastes in men she has multiple boys, usually some kind of servant in a noble house, and each knows her under a different name. Over time and with practice, she learned that the secret to getting most boys to like her is telling them how wonderful she thinks they are (usually a lie) and playing hard to get at the same time.
Quick to anger, Freya can hold a grudge longer than the Lord Ruler has been alive. Particularly when an insult or joke has been made at her expense, even if the other person was simply teasing; in fact that often makes it worse in Freya’s eyes. Since her humor is rather lacking and her temper rather fiery, Freya has made few friends outside of her informant web. Those within her circle are usually flattered or lied to so they never see the uglier side of their hired spy.
Although Freya loves to show off she is actually very thoughtful and intuitive, something that makes her a natural informant. Given information she can piece together seemingly unrelated events or conversations to form a (usually) correct assumption. Her prices as an informant are somewhat high but her information is always reliable because she makes sure to double check everything before telling her clients what she has learned. However because being an informant is such a high risk occupation she is paranoid. Aliases and lies come naturally and people rarely see her actual home, instead Freya meets with her clients in deserted areas or public squares so that the more ruthless ones can’t send assassins after the person who knows their secrets.
Freya has also gained a few connections in the Luthadel underground. These are mainly just crew leaders who get information from her as well and she can work as a consultant on what nobles to scam next. From her underground “friends” she has learned how to defend herself from basic attacks and along with how to use a knife. Her skill is considered average in the underground (which is to say, pretty damn good) and since she is always afraid that the nobles who come to her for information will have allomancers with them, she only carries glass daggers.
With no sense of loyalty to those around her, probably because any of them would sell her our in a heart beat, Freya is flighty. Moving from house to house and never fully settling on any kinds of commitments whether they be financial or relationships. Although this has kept her alive more than once it also means people rarely put their trust in her, knowing she may never turn up again.
History:
Made in the year 300, the fourth generation of kandra, Aen was given the Blessing of Presence. The first thing she had beaten into her now enhanced brain was the First Contract. To never kill humans, collect all the Atium possible, respect the First, Second and Third generations, love the Father and be prepared for the Resolution if ever the time should come. Aen has followed it to the letter since her birth.
Obedience, unlike in the Third Generation, was something that was drilled into the Fourths. To never question the Firsts or the Seconds as they would always know best for the kandras. Granted there were a few who were rebellious. Those who attempted to resist. AenSitu was not one of them. She knew and understood that protesting would get her no where, worse she would not be able to get contracts. After hearing so much about the humans and the kandra's job of pretending to be like those they digested, she was intensely curious to experience the outside world, and would never risk losing.
So she stayed quiet for the first few years, learning all she could and waiting anxiously for her first contract. At a time when religions were still resisting the might of the Steel Ministry and the Father, Aen wanted nothing more than to be a spy against those who would dare oppose the Lord Ruler. At the start of her fifth year of life she got her wish.
AenSitu was to impersonate the priestess of a resistant religion, for an entire month she studied the woman, memorizing the prayers, the people and the personality of the priestess. After a month someone killed the priestess so Aen could take her place. She still remembers the change, it took almost an entire day and it was during that change she thanked her teachers for all the practice she had received while in the Homeland. When the contract was over, the religious sect burned and hanged, Aen went back to the Homeland feeling even more curious about the skaa and the nobles who ruled over everyone else.
Contract after contract was given to Aen until she only spent a week or so in the Homeland until she got to leave again. Impersonating a low-born noble daughter in order to get the father killed for harboring runaway skaa. An old Obligator who was part of a group that secretly gave trading contracts to the wealthier skaa. A rebel leader in the 400’s. Yet no matter how many times she left the Homeland, Aen still felt as if she learned more of human nature in her time among them. Their instincts to hide, run hurt and resist the power of those higher up on the pecking order. Yet they could also be kind, helping those who are hurt, granted not all of them would do such things, but there were a few.
Around the 500’s the Seconds stopped taking contracts and never left the Homeland again. Now some of the more important contracts were open to the lower generations. Contracts from the High Nobles, usually as some kind of assassin, or intelligence gatherer. It was more enjoyable to serve the important people, even if they could be more brutal. In one contract Aen, became a female maid at a high Noble Household in order to spy on the Heir of the House. Every time she displeased the master of the house he would give her to the soldiers. Understanding that such experiences were not rare among the skaa, Aen began to feel a strong empathy for them. After being treated this way for so long she did not wonder why there were rebellions ever seventy years or so.At the Moment:
Since her mother died in child birth, Freya was fascinated with her father and anything he did. Her childhood was mainly spent in the Twists, one of the Luthadel Slums although her father moved them near the Bronze Gate a couple of times, to avoid possible assassins.
Freya grew up on the streets with the other kids learning how to keep out of the way of the Garrison and daring each other to go out in the mists. While her father cared dearly for Freya it was hard for him to show it since he was constantly visiting nobles or his sources, which left Freya alone for the majority of her life. He was excellent at his job, one of the best in the city and he had to work hard to keep up his reputation and avoid the Noble’s assassins.
Dodging killers worked well until four years ago. The House war was picking up and informants were used almost constantly to identify the weakest target. Freya had grown up and had already learned everything she could by watching her father work. Soon after Freya’s fifteenth birthday her father was killed by a group of Mistings in the employ of a High Noble House. Stricken with grief, Freya grabbed frantically at anything that reminded her of her father. Informant was first on a list of many.
For the past four year Freya’s reputation has slowly grown, not just with nobles but with various skaa crews as well. While she was not one of the best she certainly had the perseverance and determination. Of course, then she was killed and Aen became Freya and now Freya has joined her father in the world of the dead.

Roleplay Example:
Dear Diary,
This week has been especially hard because of the Ashfall that has lasted for three days now. It has caused the men who visit the Soup Kitchen to become increasingly agitated because it takes them longer to get to and from the mills and forges. This also makes them stay longer and quite recently, they have decided that I, and the other soup-serving girls, may be pretty enough for them to tease. I don’t think they understand that we sell soup, not our bodies. For things like that they should go to the nearby whore houses.
Other then that this week has simply been laid back and despite the rumors I have not seen a single Steel Inquisitor pass through the streets. I think it’s just the superstitious old ladies trying to stir up trouble again. There have been rumors about the Ventures again as well, and these are particularly troubling since they fund the Soup Kitchen where I work. From rumors, and from other sources, I think there is another House War coming up. It’ll be big, bigger then the last one, just fifty years ago. The rebellion is what caused it, all of the ruined plantations have caused traders, even skaa ones, to become even more important over the last few years and the Nobles are fighting for supplies in order to feed the skaa. Even they understand that skaa who die of starvation cannot work their fields.
Sincerely,
Freya
AenSitu closed the notebook, Freya’s diary. The girl had written in it once a week for the past two years and in order to perfectly and accurately impersonate the girl the practice must be kept. Aen had spent a day or so analyzing the word choice, sentence structure and writing style of Freya and now, even the most intelligent and analytical Terrismen would not be able to tell a difference. The gooiness. The self-importance. Even the hint of some knowledge beyond the readers comprehension. It was perfect.
Aen had only been Freya for two weeks, three days, seven hours, thirty-two minutes and twenty-nine seconds. She hadn’t kept count on purpose but even know her Blessing of Presence worked to keep her mind churning with any kind of mental exercises it could. She had already counted each of the forty irregularly shaped oak floor boards, all twenty-nine of the rectangular pine ceiling boards and all forty-three of the similarly shaped long oak wall panels. Now the room had been reduced to numbers. Forty, twenty-nine and forty-three.
Aen sat quietly at Freya’s, no her table. The table was circular, wood designs cut into the legs. Beside it was a mattress, no bed frame, simply a large mattress placed on the floor with a decorative orange and red fall blanket draped over it. The matching pillows were propped neatly against the wall. Aen had already met the boy, a man really, who apparently had shared this bed with Freya a few times a week. Much to Aen’s relief he had died a few days after she met him because he was stupid, or drunk, enough to bump into guards while out in the mists. She had mourned, as expected, but was glad in not having to bed someone simply because she had been so unlucky as to end up a ‘girlfriend’.
Across from the bed was a large fireplace, crude but effective when all it was used for was cooking. A door next to the fireplace led into a private bathroom. A rare sight in Luthadel outside of the Cantons or Keeps. Overall the room was boring, dusty and in need of repair but compared to the skaa sleeping in the alleys it was a palace.
Despite her rather extravagant living quarters, Freya had been intelligent enough to not write down the information she gathered. Instead she would memorize everything she heard or saw, later putting it all together to form new information which she could then sell. She had been smart, but Aen was much, much smarter.
While observing Freya a few weeks earlier she had been able to find everyone of her sources. Most were simply servants in High Noble Houses, some female maids were personal friends of a girl they knew as Meliny. The men were the boyfriends of a girl they knew as Terey, Kisare, Clymene or Larisa. Aen had to admit that this girl had probably slept with as many men as some of the prostitutes in Luthadel. However it seemed that Freya could definitely get information, despite her seemingly unusual methods. I’ll have to be able to imitate her though, thank the Lord Ruler I’ve been a prostitute before.
AenSitu sat for a few more moments, simply letting her mind race, putting together what information she had with what her master had already told her of. He’ll want a report soon; I’m supposed to come to see him once a month. I might as well make it today. Inspecting first her ash stained pink skirt and white blouse, then her light brown hair to make sure all was in order. After fiddling with the drawers of the desk she finally found the small hand mirror that was now, her prized possession. While looking in the reflecting surface she studied her beautiful green eyes, and full mouth. There was no question why this girl had so many lovers. Smiling at herself Aen replaced the mirror and closed the drawer.
Turning and taking the pre-calculated five steps it would take to reach her door, reaching out her left hand and twisting the knob quickly to the right, then stepping out into the hallway of the shared housing, took less then a few seconds. Aen had always been amazed at the sudden and decisive way humans could do things. Kandra could take years to choose yet humans, the “inferior race” could decide within a few moments.
Turning her attention back to the hallway Aen went over what she knew. 12 rooms, six up stairs, six down stairs. Each cost 10 boxings a month. That was 120 boxings a month assuming all rooms were full and 1440 a year, assuming that all 12 were filled up year round. Quite an income for a shared housing but it helped that all of the people who lived here were either wealthy (by skaa standards) or poor (by noble standards).
Freya’s room was the last one on the right of the second floor. It was this hallways the Aen stepped out into and on her way to the stairs she began to count the wall panels. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7…
